Dononvan Edwards won four straight district titles at West Bloomfield High School. He ran for 1,439 rushing yards and 569 yards receiving his junior year, scoring 25 touchdowns. He ran for 1,021 yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games as a senior before the season was suspended for Covid. He was a consensus 4-star rating and 247Sports had him ranked as their #29 overall player in the country. He was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game, Adidas All-American Game, Hall of Fame World Bowl and the Polynesian Bowl. He committed to Michigan over a bunch of other D1 offers.
In his freshman season Edwards played in 12 games as running back and special teams. He carried the ball 35 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown. He shared the team’s Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Last season Edwards appeared in 11 games with three starts at running back. He ran 140 times for 991 yards and seven touchdowns. His 7.1 yards per carry were 3rd all time in Michigan history.
Edwards took a step back in 2023, his average per carry went from 7.1 to 4.2 yards per carry. He could never seem to find his footing in the reserve role and only rushed for 497 yards and five touchdowns. He was used more in passing situations and had a career high 30 receptions.
After the season, Edwards decided to come back to Ann Arbor for another season.
