Benge attended Yukon High School in Oklahoma. He was named the OCABCA North Player of the Year and also earned COAC Offensive Player of the Year honors as a senior. He was 8-1 on the mound with 124 strikeouts and also hit .490 to lead YHS to the Class 6A State Tournament. Benge joined Oklahoma State following his high school career.
Benge missed his freshman year with the Cowboys as he underwent Tommy John surgery. He came back in 2023 for his redshirt freshman season and impressed in his college debut season, slashing .345/.468/.538 (batting avg, on base %, slugging). He hit 7 home runs and drove in 43 RBI. On the mound, Benge made 10 appearances (all starts), posting a 6.69 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 24 walks in 35.0 innings in his first season since Tommy John.
This year is Benge's redshirt sophomore season with the Cowboys. He is off to a hot start on both sides of the game, batting above .300 and on pace to beat his home run, slugging, and RBI numbers from last season. On the mound, he has moved to the bullpen after being a starter the year before, making 9 appearances so far and currently holding a 1.00 ERA. He has been much more effective in this role, and has massively improved his K/BB ratio.
Benge looks to continue his success in both facets of the game and keep himself in first round talks for this year's draft.
