Devin Carter initially attended Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, Colorado but transferred to Doral Academy Preparatory School in Doral, Florida. After his freshman year, his family relocated to Florida following his father, Anthony Carter, being hired as a player developmental coach for the Miami Heat.
Carter was averaging 28.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game during his senior season, until he suffered a season ending shoulder injury. He was named Florida's Player of the Year for class 7A. Carter was rated as a three-star recruit and committed to play college basketball at South Carolina.
He had a strong freshman season for the Gamecocks, playing 30 games, making 7 starts, and averaging 9.0 points and 3.8 rebounds. After the season, Carter entered the transfer portal and eventually transferred to Providence.
During his sophomore year at Providence, Carter started all 33 games and showed improvement in his overall offensive game, chipping in 13.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Carter took his game to another level this past season at Providence with an improved perimeter game, leading the Big East in scoring. He was named an honorable All-American and the Big East Player of the Year.
After the season, Carter entered the NBA Draft.
