Ricky White attended Marietta High School in Georgia, where he played football and basketball. White posted 55 catches for 1,066 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior in 2018 and earned first team all-region 2-7A. As a senior, he recorded 97 receptions for 1,319 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named to the Marietta Daily Journal All-County First Team for two straight seasons. White was rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and he committed to Michigan State to play football.
In his freshman season for the Spartans, White played in three games and caught 10 passes for 223 yards, including a Michigan State freshman record of 196 yards against Michigan. He did not play in any games in 2021 and redshirted but after the season was over he entered the transfer portal and decided to transfer to UNLV.
In his first season with the Rebels, White played 12 games and had 51 receptions for 619 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot-1 receiver had an unbelievable second season at UNLV shattering their receiving yards record with 1,483 and hauling in 88 passes with eight touchdowns. White was named Third Team All-American by the Associated Press and was just the second UNLV receiver ever to appear on an AP team and the first since 1981.
