Today’s Spotlight - Georgia- First Baseman, Charlie Condon
Name- Charlie Condon
Pos- 1B
Team- Georgia
HT/WT- 6’6” 216 lbs
Born- 4/14/2003
Home – Atlanta, GA
Condon attended The Walker School in Marietta, Georgia where he batted .515 as a junior and .432 as a senior, choosing to join Georgia following high school.
Condon redshirted in his first year in 2022. His redshirt freshman season was one of the best freshman performances in recent memory as he batted .386 with .800 slugging, 25 home runs and 67 RBI. He was named National Freshman of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, D1Baseball.com and NCBWA.
This season is his redshirt sophomore year, and he has been the hottest player in baseball through the first 47 games of the year. He has an impressive .459 batting average with 33 home runs, 69 RBI, and 1.105 slugging. At the time of this article he has hit homers in 7 straight games. He is competing to be the first overall selection in the draft this year, and if he somehow stays this red hot, he may just win that battle.
Condon obviously has incredible power at the plate, but he also shows good enough contact skills where he can be effective hitting pitches all over the plate and even those slightly off the back. He has a massive 6'6" frame with a bit more room for added weight if needed. His arm strength is above average from both third base and the outfield, which will allow him to get some looks at both positions at the next level.
Condon has decent contact skills, but there are still some small holes in his swing despite the improvements he's made. His swing tends to get a bit long at some points and he is a bit inconsistent in the field. His "jumps" are not always the best, but with his length and smooth movement for his size, he is still a dependable defender.
Condon is an impressive prospect with great size and power. He also has the athleticism to play third base and the corner outfield positions on defense. His defense is solid, but the bat is what draws the most attention as he is one of the best overall hitters with some of the most raw power in the country.
Pro Comparison- Nick Castellanos
Castellanos and Condon have similar builds and playing styles. Both hit for power with longer swing paths. The main concerns for both players is their defensive ability, though there are less holes in Condon's defensive game than that of Castellanos. Both have 40-home run upside at the plate and ability to provide some good pop in the middle of a lineup.
