Today’s Spotlight - Tennessee, 2B, Christian Moore
Name- Christian Moore
Bats/Throws- R/R
Pos- 2B
Team- Tennessee
HT/WT- 6’1” 210 lbs
Born- 10/21/2002
Home – Brooklyn, NY
Moore attended Suffield Academy in Connecticut. He was listed as one of the top 100 prospects by Perfect Game, and chose to join Tennessee following his high school career.
As a freshman, Moore was an immediate impact player, slashing .305/.443/.619 (average, on base %, slugging). He hit 10 home runs, 3 doubles, and 2 triples, and drove in 36 RBI. He played 51 games with just 29 starts.
As a sophomore, Moore was a full time starter, playing in 63 games and starting 61. He put up a stat line similar to that of his freshman year, with a .304/.444/.603 split. He drove in 50 RBI with 17 home runs and 13 doubles.
This season is Moore's junior year. He looks to improve some things in his game while continuing his success at the plate.
Moore is very strong and physical. This translated well to his offensive game as he hits with above average power, with 25 home run potential at the next level. Defensively, Moore is rangy at second base and is able to cover a lot of ground. His solid glove and above average speed make him a reliable option at second.
Strengths
Moore's bat has been a bit inconsistent over his college career, with a swing and miss rate that is a bit too high for scouts' liking. He has streaks where he is more prone to chasing pitches and strikeouts.
Defensively, he has an average arm at best, limiting his versatility as he will likely only be able to play second base and possibly third base.
Weaknesses
Moore is a strong, athletic infielder with above average pop at the plate. His athleticism and good burst provide for range at second base. His consistent improvements over his college years will have him fighting for a fringe first round, high second round selection if they continue into his junior season this year.
