Today’s Spotlight - Virginia- 2nd Baseman, Griff O’Ferrall
Name- Griff O’Ferrall
Pos- 2B
Team- Virginia
HT/WT- 6’1” 185 lbs
Born- 2/2/2003
Home – Richmond, VA
O'Ferrall attended St. Christopher's High School in Virginia. As a senior, he batted .449 with 5 home runs, 26 RBIs, and scored 47 runs. He holds the school record for hits, runs scored and stolen bases. O'ferrall was named Virginia's Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior, and chose to join the Virginia Cavaliers following his high school career.
As a freshman, O'Ferrall slashed .308/.406/.366 (average, on base %, slugging), driving in 39 RBI with 2 home runs and 5 doubles. He was selected to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
Last season as a sophomore, O'Ferrall improved in just about every statistical category, with a slash line of .396/.453/.495, 42 RBI, 1 home run and 20 doubles. He was a First Team All-ACC selection at shortstop, and earned Third Team All-America and First Team All-Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
This season as a junior, he is not quite putting up the big numbers he did in 2023. He is still hitting a respectable .319 with 4 homers and 42 RBI, in 47 games.
O'Ferrall's bat-to-ball skills are well above average, and prove to make him a tough out for pitchers as he can hit the ball well to all fields. His barrel control and all around skill at the plate are very valuable and will help him in his transition to pro ball. Defensively, he provides some versatility with ability to play both middle-infield positions as well as the corner outfield if needed. He is a twitchy defender with quick hands and a smooth presence on the dirt.
O'Ferrall has great contact ability, but lacks significant and consistent power at the plate. He has been known to hit the gaps and hit a lot of doubles, but does not go yard very often. He also has average speed which will probably not bring as much value to pro ball as it does to college despite his instincts and baseball IQ.

Draft Nation’s Final Analysis
O'Ferrall is a very solid all-around prospect, lacking in the power department, but makes up for it by hitting for an impressive average over his college career and causing problems on the basepaths. He fits the mold of a reliable Major League utility player who can handle multiple positions due to the fluid mechanics, quick hands and overall athleticism. As O'Ferrall grows into his frame, he may be able to provide a bit more slugging, but for now he is a solid contact hitter with gap-to-gap ability. He has potential to sneak into day 1 of the draft as a late second round pick.
