Today’s Spotlight - Wake Forest, IF/OF, Seaver King
Name- Seaver King
Pos- IF/OF
Team- Wake Forest
HT/WT- 6’0” 190 lbs
Born- 4/25/2003
Home – Athens, GA
King attended Athens Christian High School in Georgia. He was a utility prospect and showed a solid bat, earning himself First Team All-State honors. He chose to join Wingate after his high school career.
As a freshman at Wingate, King hit .381 with .640 slugging. He hit 4 home runs and led the team with 18 doubles. He drove in 44 RBI in his 39 games (35 starts).
As a sophomore, King played even better, batting .411 with .699 slugging, and finding his power stroke as his exit velocities jumped up, allowing him to hit 11 home runs, 20 doubles and drive in 53 RBI in 50 games.
Following his impressive sophomore campaign, King decided to transfer to Wake Forest for the 2024 season. In 2024, King hit .323 with 16 homers and 64 RBI.
Strengths
King's athleticism give him impressive defensive versatility, as he is able to play third base and middle infield, as well as all outfield positions. He fits best as a second baseman and a center fielder as this is where he has played throughout college and where can use his athleticism to make plays. At the plate, he has an aggressive approach with good bat-to-ball skills. He can hit to all fields and has the mentality to hit the ball where it is pitched, showing his maturity and good mechanics at the plate. He is also a plus runner who can be an asset on the base paths at the next level.
Weaknesses
King's athleticism and twitchiness make scouts believe he could handle shortstop at the next level, but due to his average arm strength, he will likely limit him to playing second base and center field as he transitions to the MLB. At the plate, King's aggressive approach can lead to him swinging at pitches off the plate. His impressive contact skills will offset these swings at times, but as pitching improves, he will likely be asked to be a bit more selective in the box.
Seaver King is a versatile and impressively athletic prospect with above average tools all over the field. His speed and contact skills will make him a good on-base option, but he also has the ability to crush mistake pitches and hit the ball with power. Defensively, King plays a number of different positions and will be a solid and valuable utility defender.
