The Detroit Lions captured the NFC North crown in 2023, their first division title since 1993. The Green Bay Packers surged late but couldn't catch the Lions, and did so for the first time since 1992 without either Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers. Jordan Love was the new sheriff in town and led the Packers to a wild card berth and a playoff victory. The Chicago Bears also found their footing after the addition of trade deadline acquisition and edge rusher, Montez Sweat but still managed to claim the first overall pick in this year's draft thanks to their trade with the Carolina Panthers. Conventional wisdom dictates they will add USC's quarterback Caleb Williams to their roster to take over for the departed Justin Fields. The Minnesota Vikings lost their longtime quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency and have made some off-season moves to acquire another first round pick and now have the draft capital to trade up and secure one of the top four signal callers in the draft.
Chicago Bears
Signed QB- Brett Rypien to one-year contract.
Signed RB- D’Andre Swift to a three-year contract.
Acquired WR- Keenan Allen from the LA Chargers for a 4th round pick in 2024.
Re-signed WR- Dante Pettis to a one-year contract.
Acquired OL- Ryan Bates from Buffalo for a 5th round pick in 2024.
Signed OL- Jake Curham to a one-year contract.
Signed OL- Matt Pryor to a one-year contract.
Signed C- Coleman Shelton to a one-year contract.
Signed TE- Gerald Everett to a two-year contract.
Signed DE- Jake Martin to a one-year contract.
Signed LB- Amen Ogbongbemiga to a one-year contract.
Re-signed CB- Jaylon Johnson to a four-year contract.
Signed S- Kevin Byard to a two-year contract.
Signed S- Jonathan Owens to a two-year contract.
Re-signed LS- Patrick Scales to a one-year contract.
Traded QB- Justin Fields to Pittsburgh for a 6th round pick in 2025 that could become a 4th round pick.
The Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields to open the door for the Caleb Williams pick at #1 overall. Adding veteran runner D’Andre Swift in free agency and future Hall of Fame receiver Keenan Allen in a trade with the LA Chargers, the Bears' offense has greatly improved on paper to what they had in 2023. Re-signing rising star and cornerback Jaylon Johnson to a long term deal was a necessity on defense and adding savvy veteran Kevin Byard will help the back end of the secondary.
Detroit Lions
Re-signed WR- Donovan Peoples-Jones to a one-year contract.
Re-signed G- Graham Glasgow to a three-year extension.
Signed G- Kevin Zeitler to a one-year contract.
Signed T- Dan Skipper to a one-year contract.
Signed Edge- Marcus Davenport to a one-year contract.
Signed DL- D.J. Reader to a two-year contract.
Re-signed LB- Jalen Reeves-Maybin to a two-year extension.
Acquired CB- Carlton Davis and a 6th round pick in 2024 and 2025 from Tampa Bay for a 2024 3rd round pick.
Re-signed CB- Emmanuel Moseley to a one-year contract.
Signed CB- Amik Robertson to a two-year contract.
Re-signed K- Michael Badgley to a one-year contract.
Re-signed LS- Scott Daly to a one-year contract.
The Lions filled some holes in the offseason but also added others, namely the release of cornerback Cameron Sutton after his legal problems surfaced earlier this month. Draft Nation believes Detroit will be aggressive in the first round again, looking for some help at the cornerback position and for more depth on the defensive line during the later rounds.
Green Bay Packers
Re-signed RB- A.J. Dillon to a four-year contract.
Signed RB- Josh Jacobs to a four-year contract.
Re-signed TE- Tyler Davis to a one-year contact.
Re-signed LB- Eric Wilson to a one-year contract.
Re-signed CB- Corey Ballentine to a one-year contract.
Re-signed CB- Keisean Nixon to a three-year contract.
Signed S- Xavier McKinney to a four-year contract.
Green Bay cut longtime runner Aaron Jones but added Raiders free agent star Josh Jacobs, expecting him to team up with A.J. Dillon in the backfield. The Packers also re-signed both Corey Ballantine and Keisean Nixon to maintain depth at the cornerback position but still may draft a cornerback in the draft who can start alongside star shut down corner Jaire Alexander. The Packers may also add to their offensive tackle room in this very deep tackle draft.
Minnesota Vikings
Signed QB- Sam Darnold to a one-year contract.
Signed RB- Aaron Jones to a one-year contract
Re-signed WR- Brandon Powell to a one-year contract.
Signed WR- Trent Sherfield to a one-year contract.
Re-signed TE- Johnny Mundt to a one-year contract.
Re-signed T- David Quessenberry to a one-year contract.
Signed G- Dan Feeney to a one-year contract.
Signed Edge- Jonathan Greenard to a four-year contract.
Signed Edge- Andrew Van Ginkel to a two-year contract.
Signed Edge- Jihad Ward to a one-year contract.
Signed DT- Jerry Tillery to a one-year contract.
Re-signed DL- Jonathan Bullard to a one-year contract.
Signed DL- Jonah Williams to a one-year contract.
Signed LB- Blake Cashman to a three-year contract.
Signed LB- Kamu Grugier-Hill to a one-year contract.
Signed CB- Shaquill Griffin to a one-year contract.
Signed K- John Parker Romo to a one-year contract.
The Vikings lost their starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons during free agency and subsequently signed journeyman signal caller Sam Darnold to hold down the fort. There is an overwhelming sentiment among the draft circles that Minnesota is looking to package its two first round picks (and maybe more) to move up as high as the third pick overall in the first round to find their next starting quarterback.
