NFL Prospect to Watch: Arkansas QB Taylen Green
Fourth year junior QB Taylen Green has not been oft discussed as an NFL prospect. A three-star prospect at Boise State, he redshirted, took over the QB job, and then struggled to keep the position in his three seasons as a Bronco.
When he entered the transfer portal, few talked about him until Arkansas—a team that went just 4-8 in 2023, has a coach on the hot seat, and is so desperate it hired its former head coach, who humiliated himself and the school, back as its OC—scooped him up with little fanfare.
In Week 1, Green looked stellar against lowly Arkansas Pine Bluff. In Week 2, he made scouts take notice with a strong performance against Oklahoma State, one where he was particularly dominant in the first half.
For the road game against a Top 25 opponent, Green went 26-45 for 416 yards and ran for another 61. However, his physical ability stood out. Standing at 6’6” and 230 lbs., Green’s mobility and strong arm make him one of the most gifted QB prospects few are talking about.
The temptation to write about Green after the Week 2 performance as a “rising star” was there. However, he played poorly against UAB in Week 3, a game the Razorbacks won just 37-27. A stat line of 11-26 for 161 yards, 0 TDs, and an INT is more likely to earn chatter about a benching than NFL interest.
That puts some real intrigue behind Taylen Green’s upcoming performance this week against Auburn.
On the road against SEC competition, an impressive performance would draw significant attention to Green. And, to help ensure a positive impression, Green is facing a porous Auburn secondary that gave up 291 passing yards to New Mexico’s Devon Dampier last week and made Cal’s Fernando Mendoza look like a superstar.
Could Taylen Green take advantage?
Given his physical tools, Taylen Green looks the part of a quarterback that will naturally intrigue NFL scouts. If he has a strong performance against the Tigers, it could put him on a trajectory of increased buzz in a relatively weak class of premier QBs.
