When the Colts make their pick at 15th overall in April's NFL Draft, the player selected could be the top at their position in this year's class. After selecting Anthony Richardson last season with the 4th overall pick, the Colts hope to have their franchise quarterback for years to come. Richardson seems to be getting healthier as the offseason goes on and is primed to have a breakout season in his 2nd year in the NFL.
With four quarterbacks projected to go in the first 12 picks of the upcoming selection process, the Colts can easily get a player that is projected to be the best or second best at his position. The team has many needs heading into draft night, some that will be solved via the draft and others that can be secured in free agency.
Here are three candidates to keep a close eye on for the Colts with the 15th overall pick:
Rome Odunze – WR - Washington
Odunze enters the draft fresh off a run to the National Championship game. He showed well in the three biggest games this season for the Washington Huskies. In his final three games, the Pac 12 Championship, All State Sugar Bowl and National Championship Game, Odunze caught 19 passes for 314 yards with 4 of those catches coming for a gain of over 30 yards. He's projected as the 2nd best wide receiver in this draft class and if the cards fall right, could be in play for the Colts at #15. He would be a great addition to the wide receiving corps that should see Michael Pittman return for one more season and alongside breakout speedster Josh Downs.
Brock Bowers – TE - Georgia
The “not as sexy” but much needed second option for the Colts would be to fill a need at the tight end position with the 15th overall pick. Tight end for the Colts last season was a plug and play position. Four different tight ends caught passes from the Colts quarterbacks in 2023, but none of the four really have shown consistent #1 tight end position play.
Brock Bowers from Georgia can step in and be the #1 tight end from his first day in camp. The 3 time All SEC performer scored 31 total touchdowns in his three seasons in Athens while snagging 175 receptions. He's one of the best tight ends in the history of Georgia football, if not all of college football.
Nate Wiggins – CB – Clemson
Another interesting pick at #15 would be Nate Wiggins from Clemson. In the short term, the Colts face numerous opponents with plenty of firepower. Facing the Jaguars twice, the Texans twice, the Packers, Dolphins, Bills and Lions, immediate help at the cornerback position could come in the first round with Wiggins. He's 6’2” and 185 lbs., with length to spare. He will need to bulk up a bit before training camp but is possibly the best cornerback in this draft, with Iowa’s Cooper DeJean coming in a close second.
The best news for this Colts franchise with the 15th pick is they have options. They have plenty of needs and can fill one of those needs with an immediate impact player in round one. Any of these three players will make fans of the team stand and applaud the pick.
