Jaylen Wright was a consensus three-star prospect by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN at Southern Durham High School and finished his high school career as the No. 30 ranked running back in the country. He won the indoor state title in the 55m dash, with a time of 6.29, which was the fastest time in the country. He did not get to play his senior season in 2020 due to Covid-19 and committed to Tennessee in March of that year.
Wright played 9 games in his freshman season and finished 3rd on Tennessee with 409 yards on 85 attempts and 4 touchdowns.
Last season, Wright was the leading rusher for the Vols and seemed to get stronger as the season went on. He averaged 6.0 yards per carry and ended the season rushing 146 times for 875 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In his 2023 season, Wright rushed for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns while averaging 7.4 yards per carry. He also showed some production in the passing game hauling in 22 passes for Tennessee.
