Roman Hemby was a three-star recruit out of The John Carroll School, where he tallied 1,543 yards and 18 touchdowns in his 2 seasons. He selected Maryland over offers from Duke, West Virginia, Appalachian State, Vanderbilt and N.C. State.
Hemby redshirted after only appearing in 4 games and totaling 17 carries for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns. Last season he finished third among all FBS freshmen in yards from scrimmage (1,287), and his 10 touchdowns were the 2nd most ever by a Maryland freshman.
In 2023, Hemby rushed for 680 yards and 4 touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He also was one of the better pass catchers for the Terps with 38 receptions, 349 yards and 2 touchdowns.
