Cameron Skattebo attended Rio Linda High School in California, where he starred at running back. He rushed for over 6,000 yards with 69 touchdowns in his high school career, including a mind-boggling 3,550 yards and 42 touchdowns during his junior season. He was named first team all-league three times and was named the Sacramento Bee Offensive Player of the Year. Skattebo was an unranked prospect and decided to attend Sacramento State University.
In Skattebo's first career season in 2021, he rushed for 520 yards and six touchdowns on 57 carries. For his performance on the 2021 season, the freshman running back was named third team all Big Sky Conference and in the 2022 season, he had a breakout season rushing for 1,382 yards and seven touchdowns,while also throwing a touchdown and returning an onside kick for at touchdown. As a result, he was named first team all Big Sky and the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year. After the conclusion of the 2022 season, Skattebo entered the NCAA transfer portal and transferred to Arizona State University.
In his first season of FBS football, Skattebo played in 12 games with seven starts, and rushed for 783 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 286 yards and one touchdown. The multi-talented player completed 6 of 15 passes for 130 yards with one interception and one touchdown.
Skattebo had a record breaking 2024 season for the Sun Devils in helping them reach the college football playoffs. He rushed for 1,568 yards and 19 touchdowns while also hauling in 37 passes for 506 yards and three more scores. His rushing yards places him second all-time in Arizona State history and his 22 total touchdowns ties him for the most.
