Dante Trader Jr. grew up in Delmar, Delaware and attended Delmar High School before transferring to McDonogh School during his junior year. He tallied 25 solo tackles, six interceptions and 14 pass breakups in the 2019 season, helping lead McDonogh to an 11-1 record. After the season he was named All-MIAA. Trader Jr. was also a member of the nationally-ranked Maryland lacrosse team, and was the No. 5 lacrosse player in the class of 2021 according to Inside lacrosse. Trader Jr. committed to Maryland to play in both lacrosse and football, but chose to play football instead of lacrosse for his freshman year.
In his first season, Trader appeared in 12 out of 13 games and had 16 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup. In his sophomore season, he joined with teammate Beau Brade to provide one of the best safety tandems in the country. Trader started all 13 games and collected 62 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups.
As a junior in 2023, Trader started 12 games and finished third on the team in tackles with 58. He also added two interceptions and seven pass breakups for the Terrapins.
