Petrutz attended Clearview Regional High School and Bishop Eustace Prep School in his high school years. He had an impressive high school career, and was ranked the no. 2 outfielder and no. 7 overall prospect in the country by Prep Baseball Report. He chose to join Maryland.
As a freshman with the Terps, Petrutz slashed .324/.444/.639 (average, on base %, slugging) in an impressive debut season. he played 34 games with 28 starts. He hit 9 home runs and 7 doubles, and was responsible for 35 RBI.
Last season as a sophomore, Pertrutz started 56 games for the Terps, and put up a slash line of .270/.408/.512. He took a step back offensively, but still hit 14 home runs, 7 doubles, a triple, and drove in 56 RBI on the year. He struck out 31 times and walked 44 times.
Following his sophomore season with Maryland, Pertrutz decided to transfer to Alabama for this year. As a junior in 2024, he is getting his first taste of SEC baseball, and is expected to perform well for the Tide.
