Ja'Quinden Jackson attended Duncanville High School in Texas, where he was a star quarterback for the football team.
He earned High School All-America and first-team all-state honors after leading the Panthers to two consecutive state title games. As a senior, he completed 100-of-163 passes for 1,711 yards with 21 touchdowns and five interceptions to go along with 1,030 yards rushing and 16 scores.
Jackson was rated a four-star recruit and the No. 2 overall recruit in the state of Texas by ESPN and a member of the ESPN300 (No.28) Jackson had several scholarship offers, and eventually committed to the University of Texas.
In 2020, Jackson redshirted and did not see any action for the Longhorns. After the season he entered the transfer portal and decided to transfer to the University of Utah.
As a redshirt freshman at Utah, he played in three games as quarterback and ran six times for 30 yards and one touchdown while not throwing a pass. He showed off his versatility in this second year with the Utes, appearing in all 13 games while seeing action at quarterback, running back and special teams. He made a transition to full-time running back in week four and finished the season with 531 yards rushing and nine touchdowns on 78 carries.
Jackson started 11 of the 12 games he played at running back and led Utah in rushing yards (797) and rushing touchdowns (4) in 2023.
After the season, Jackson once again entered the transfer portal and decided to transfer to the University of Arkansas.
