Lathan Ransom was born in Tucson, Arizona and attended Salpointe Catholic High School, where he played football and was a national top-100 prospect and the No. 5-ranked safety nationally by 247Sports. Ransom was named the AllSportsTucson.com Athlete of the Year in 2019. As a junior he collected 82 tackles, two sacks, six interceptions and eight pass breakups and made the Arizona Republic All-Arizona team. With several offers in front of him, Ransom committed to Ohio State.
As a freshman in 2020, Ransom played in seven games and collected five tackles in limited action. In 2021, Ransom saw the field more often playing in 13 games and racking up 38 tackles, a sack, and five passes defended.
In 2022, Ransom broke into the starting lineup playing in 12 games and starting nine. He was third on the team in tackles with 74 and had an interception, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He was named an honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference.
Ransom was once again named as an honorable mention all-Big Ten after the 2023 season, where he had 34 tackles, one interception, two passes defended, and one forced fumble. After the season Ransom decided to use his Covid year of eligibilty and return to Ohio State for a fifth season in 2024.
