The favorite to be the #1 selection in 2024 is Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini started out playing hockey for Shattuck-Saint Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota and after scoring 50 goals and 67 assists in 52 games he signed to play hockey for the Chicago Steel of the USHL. During the 2022-2023 season he scored 86 points, the most ever by an under-17 player in USHL history. He was the second player ever to be named Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Forward of the Year in one season. After his successful season in Chicago he committed to play college hockey at Boston University.
Celebrini made the most of his one season at Boston University and distanced himself from the pack of draft prospects. He finished the year with 32 goals and 32 assists in only 38 games. He was awarded the 2024 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given to college hockey’s most outstanding player.
