Nick Emmanwori attended Irmo High School in South Carolina, where he was a three-star recruit. He played all over on defense, but primarily at middle linebacker, earning first-team All-State 4A honors. He was credited with an amazing 232 tackles, four sacks, and eight forced fumbles as a senior. Emmanwori stayed close to home and committed to South Carolina.
The true freshman safety moved into the lineup replacing an injured R.J. Roderick in the first series of the season and remained in that role throughout the remainder of the year, starting the final 12 games. He was named to ESPN.com Freshman All-American team after collecting 85 tackles.
As a sophomore, he started 11 games at either safety or nickel and ranked fourth on the team in tackles with 71. He was also credited with eight pass breakups and a pair of interceptions.
