Tyler Warren grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia and attended Atlee High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and was the starting quarterback on the football team. He threw for 876 yards adn nine touchdowns and also rushed for 554 yards and seven touchdowns during his junior season. As a senior, Warren passed for 1,149 yards and 14 touchdowns while also rushing for 677 yards and 10 touchdowns. Warren was a four-star recruit who initially committed to play college football at Virginia Tech over offers from Virginia and Syracuse, but later decommitted and reopened his recruitment, later signing with Penn State.
Warren played two games during his true freshman season while maintaining a redshirt on the year. He played both tight end and fullback as a redshirt freshman and had five receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown and also rushed six times for six yards and two touchdowns.
He played in 12 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2022, and caught 10 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, Warren was part of a rotation at tight end and caught 34 passes for 422 yards and seven touchdowns. As a redshirt senior in 2024, Warren tied an FBS record by catching 17 passes in one game at USC. During that same game, Warren had 224 yards receiving, good for second most in Penn State history.
