DeMonte Capehart originally attended Hartsville High School in South Carolina before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida for his senior year. As a senior, he was named a high school All-American by Sports Illustrated after recording 44 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Capehart was selected to play in the 2020 Under Armour All-America Game. The four-star prospect committed to play football at Clemson University.
Capehart played 20 snaps as a true freshman, being credited with three tackles and a sack over four games. In 2021, he played in five games, and was not credited with any stats.
Capehart once again saw sparse playing time in 2022, only appearing in parts of 13 games and was credited with 13 tackles. The 2023 season started the same way for Capehart, but he emerged down the stretch as one of Clemson's most disruptive interior lineman. He was credited with 16 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in 13 games.
