Deone Walker grew up in Detroit, Michigan and attended Cass Technical High School, where he played football and was also a member of the basketball team. As a junior, Walker collected 28 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, seven sacks and three forced fumbles. The four star recruit tallied 43 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, and six sacks in seven games as a senior.
Walker was given 30 scholarship offers, including programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State. Walker committed to Kentucky to play football for the Wildcats.
Walker was a member of the defensive line rotation as a freshman before becoming a starter for three games. Walker was an instant contributor playing in 13 games and tallying 40 tackles, five tackles for a loss and one sack. He was named a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Award at year's end.
As a sophomore, Walker started all 13 games and saw his numbers improve across the board, collecting 55 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks.
