Serrano attended the Pro5 Baseball Academy in North Carolina. He had a .434 batting average and .505 on-base percentage during his senior season. He also posted 25 RBI in 24 games. Perfect Game ranked him the 2nd best prospect in North Carolina. He chose to join NC State following his prep career.
As a freshman last season, Serrano made an immediate impact, starting 49 of the 53 games he played for the Wolfpack. He slashed .292/.389/.470 (average, on base %, slugging), drove in 32 RBI, and had 7 home runs and 12 doubles. He earned a selection to the All-ACC Freshman Team for this performance.
This year is Serrano's sophomore season. He will be draft eligible and is expected to take a step forward at the plate from his already solid freshman campaign.
