Luke Kandra attended Elder High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and was one of the top offensive line prospects in the country. He played guard and defensive tackle at Elder and was the Ohio Division 1 state runner-up in 2019. A three star prospect, Kandra committed to play football at the University of Louisville.
After redshirting in 2020 at Louisville, Kandra played in six games as a reserve lineman in 2021. In 2022, Kandra played in eight games with two starts at guard for the Cardinals.
Kandra entered the transfer portal after the 2022 season and decided to transfer back home to play for the University of Cincinnati. Kandra started all 12 games at right guard and had one of the best seasons of any guard in the country. According to Pro Football Focus, Kandra was ranked as the third-best Power Five guard with a run blocking grade of 82.1. He was named second team All-America honors from Walter Camp and was a first team All-Big 12 selection from the AP.
Kandra decided to come back to Cincinnati for the 2024 season.
