Elliss was a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals after leading Moscow High School to back to back district titles. He was named the Inland Empire League Player of the Year Award after his senior season and decided to commit to play football at Utah.
Jonah Elliss shares some NFL bloodlines. His father Luther was a first team all-Conference and all-American for Utah from 1991-94 and played 10 years in the NFL. Jonah’s brother Kaden Elliss is in the NFL right now with the New Orleans Saints.
As a pure freshman in 2021, Elliss played in all 14 games as a reserve linebacker and on special teams. In his limited time he was still able to collect 15 tackles, 1 sack and 2 fumble recoveries.
Last season, Elliss saw his playing time spike and he made the most of it. He played in 11 games, starting 8 and made the Honorable Mention All-PAC 12 team He finished the season with 26 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles for the Utes.
This season, Jonah Elliss has been as dominating as any other edge rusher in the country, and was named six-pack player of the week twice by Draft 412 after his 2 sack performance against Florida, and then his 3.5 sack game against UCLA. On the season he has 37 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and 1 forced fumble. He did this all in 10 games before sustaining a season ending injury.
