Strachan attended Camden County High School. In his high school career he earned 2-star recruit ratings from 247 Sports and Rivals.com. He was not highly recruited and chose to join Georgia State.
As a freshman, he played in 12 games, totaling 36 tackles and 1.5 TFL. The excitement heading into his second year quickly turned to disappointment as he sustained a season-ending injury in the opening game.
As he recovered from his injury, he played in 10 games in his third season, making 41 tackles, 14 TFL and 9.5 tackles. This impressive campaign gained interest of power 5 teams. He chose to transfer to South Carolina following the 2020 season.
He saw 13 games in his fourth season, his first with South Carolina. He made 23 tackles, 6.0 TFL, and 3.0 sacks.
His fifth season was greatly anticipated and likely would have been his draft year, but he suffered a season-ending ACL tear just two games into the year. Dur to this injury, he returned for his 6th college season this year. He played in 12 games, tallying 20 tackles, 7.0 TFL, and 4.0 sacks.
