Jeffrey Bassa attended Kearns High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he lettered in football, basketball and track & field. During his senior season, Bassa totaled 222 offensive yards and 35 tackles. Bassa was a four-star prospect who had offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Hawai'i, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Syracuse, UNLV, Utah State and Washington State. Ultimately, Bassa decided to commit to play college football for the Oregon Ducks.
Bassa was a standout on Oregon's defense as a true freshman. He played in all 14 games, primarily at linebacker after transitioning from defensive back early in the season. He made seven starts at inside linebacker and totaled 48 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one sack. As a sophomore in 2022, Bassa continued to expand his role. He played in all 13 games while starting nine, and finished second on the team with 62 tackles. He also added four tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions.
He was named All-Pac-12 second team in his junior season. He started all 14 games and finished second on the team with a career-high 72 tackles, while adding 3.5 tackles for loss, and one interception that was a crucial pick-six that sealed Oregon's comeback win at Texas Tech in the final minutes. He was named the defensive MVP of the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl after finishing with nine tackles and one tackle for loss.
