Mykel Williams attended Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia. After his senior season, he was named the Maxwell Football National High School Defensive Player of the Year and was a five-star prospect and the fourth-highest recruit in the 2022 college football class. Williams initially committed to USC, but flipped to Georgia soon after.
He stepped right in and produced during his freshman season. Williams played in 15 games and totaled 28 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. At the end of the season, he was named to Pro Football Focus True Freshman All-America team.
Williams' sophomore season was almost identical to his first campaign. He played 13 games and collected 18 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
